IPG’s Diversity & Inclusion Strategy

For over a decade, diversity and inclusion (D+I) have been a corporate priority for IPG. We’ve put in place concrete programming driven by a strategy to achieve our mission of becoming one of the world’s most diverse and inclusive companies. As we have focused on our progress, we have also influenced the industry. IPG was the first holding company to: 

• Hire a Diversity Officer

• Tie CEO compensation to diversity metrics

• Establish a CEO Diversity Council

• Hire a full-time Supplier Diversity Director

• Establish inter-agency Business Resource Groups (BRGs)

• Receive the Human Rights Campaign's (HRC) "Best Place to Work" honor for LGBT talent

• Receive the American Advertising Federation's (AAF) Mosaic Workforce Diversity Award

• Receive honors from organizations outside the industry such as Diversity Best Practices

IPG has committed substantial resources and expertise to increasing diversity in our ranks and forging a sustainable culture of inclusion at our company. Each year, the IPG Diversity + Inclusion Group delivers more than 75 programs and events, touching thousands of employees and industry talent, in the U.S. and internationally.

IPG has done this because our Chairman and CEO, Michael Roth, and our Board of Directors, recognize the proven potential for enhanced financial performance, creativity and innovation when companies have diverse talent and leaders with inclusive leadership behaviors. 

Our results over the years show that our focus is helping to bring about change. Since we began a more systematic and accountable strategy in 2005, IPG’s workforce demographics in the U.S. have changed dramatically. There has been an improvement of more than 50% within African American, Hispanic and Asian minority groups in the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission "Officials and Managers" category.

About Michael Roth:

Michael I. Roth is Chairman and CEO of Interpublic (NYSE: IPG), one of the world's largest organizations of advertising and marketing services companies. Prior to serving in his current role, Roth was a member of the company’s Board of Directors.

Since assuming leadership of Interpublic in 2005, Roth has righted the company’s financial course and moved to make it an industry leader by defining new models that provide value to clients in a rapidly-changing media and marketing environment.

Prior to his current role, Roth was Chairman and CEO of The MONY Group Inc., a financial services holding company that provides a wide range of protection, asset accumulation and retail brokerage products and services through its member companies. Under Roth's leadership, The MONY Group diversified its business mix, broadened its distribution channels and enhanced its ability to compete in today's financial services marketplace.

Roth is a member of the Board of Directors for Pitney Bowes Inc., the Ad Council and Ryman Hospitality Properties. He sits on the Leadership Committee of Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts; the Board of Directors of the Committee Encouraging Corporate Philanthropy and The National Center on Addiction and Substance Abuse at Columbia University (CASA). In addition, he is a Director of The Baruch College Fund and The Partnership for New York City. He is also a member of the Business Roundtable and New York-Presbyterian Hospital’s Heart Steering Committee.

A certified public accountant, Roth holds an L.L.M. degree from New York University Law School and a J.D. from Boston University Law School. He is a 1967 graduate of the City College of New York.
